What’s Your Story?
Several years ago, Calvary Church had an impactful sermon series entitled, “The One Story.” Among others, this series contained sermon titles such as: Good, Very Good, Very Bad, The Worst, and Episode 5: The Best. The series promo read: “Answering the big (and small) questions of life. Twisting, turning, and triumphing in startling ways. It’s The One Story!”
It got me thinking… Everyone has a story; what’s your story? You’ll often hear the question, “where do you see yourself in 10 years?” But what about, “Where were you 10 years ago?” As financial advisors, we believe that the most successful client relationships are built on asking the right questions, as we walk with you on your journey. That’s because good communication is so much more about listening than it is about talking.
Learning someone’s history gives important information regarding their unique frame of reference. As we gather information about one’s past and present life, it provides important clues about what has shaped their attitudes, beliefs, needs, and wants. This information may include:
- Family history
- Work history
- Past experiences that consciously or unconsciously influence current financial behaviors
- Family circumstances and responsibilities
- Planned and unplanned life transitions
- Fears and concerns
- Values and priorities
- Hopes and dreams
These types of conversations allow us to get in touch with what shapes each individual’s unique version of reality. Learning about what brought them to where they find themselves today.
How would you categorize the various seasons of your life? Good, Very Good, Very Bad, The Worst, and The Best. Everyone has a story; what’s your story?
